The Royal Astronomical Society of Canada (RASC) began as the Toronto Astronomical Club on December 1, 1868. The eight people who gathered to share their interests were not professional astronomers, just working-class citizens with a passion for astronomy.<\/p>\n
An expanded group obtained a charter in 1890, and the name \u201cRoyal Astronomical Society of Canada\u201d was adopted in 1903 with the permission of King Edward VII.<\/p>\n
With more than five thousand members and thirty Centres in cities across the country, the organization supports men, women and youth in their quest to learn more about the universe.<\/p>\n
The RASC invites you to observe the night sky with us. You may wish to attend a Star Party, visit a Dark Sky Preserve, learn about astrophotography, search for comets or prepare for the next eclipse.<\/p>\n
RASC Centres host free astronomy activities for the public, and volunteers willingly share their experience and knowledge with others, especially newcomers.<\/p>\n

The Calgary Centre of The Royal Astronomical Society of Canada is a large and very active Centre, with an active Youth Group, and an amazing set of resources at its disposal. Many of our members are active observers, speakers and volunteers. Calgary became a Centre of the RASC on January 29, 1958.<\/p>\n
